The World’s Best Gorgonzola Cheese is Announced!
GREEN BAY, WI (May 5, 2006) – Montforte Gorgonzola was honored with the prestigious Best of Class award at the 2006 World Championship Cheese Contest. This award-winning cheese is manufactured by farmer-owned Wisconsin Farmers Union Specialty Cheese Company.
"This award is an incredible honor for our cheese company," said Wisconsin Farmers Union President Sue Beitlich. "This competition, which occurs every other year and began in 1957, is considered the ‘Olympics' of cheese competitions. The 2006 contest attracted a record 1,793 entries from 18 countries.”
"We are very proud of our cheesemaker, world champion Ed Goebel, who's entry won the competition," Beitlich said. "Credit also goes to our plant manager, Tim Pehl, and the entire staff at our cheese factory."
