Philly Grad to Study Winemaking Abroad

by Keith Wallace

Philadelphia resident Jenny Shultz may soon be a household name throughout the wine drinking world. Whether there is a Shultz Winery in her future is unknown, but she is certainly head down that challenging & exciting path.

“It is due to the Wine School of Philadelphia that I will be attending graduate school for Oenology and Viticulture” says Ms. Schultz “I never would have received the experience and knowledge required for acceptance into The University of Adelaide in Australia without my experiences at the Wine School”

Shultz is beginning graduate work at Adelaide University in South Australia in June. “Adelaide is one of the very top wine programs in the world, I would say it is the best in the English speaking world” says Keith Wallace, director of the Wine School of Philadelphia. “Jenny is our first student to be accepted into this program, so we are extremely pleased”

The Enology & Viticulture postgraduate program at Adelaide typically only accepts only a handful of international students every year, less than 2% of the total class. Graduates of the program run most major wineries re responsible for most winemaking in Australia, along with numerous wineries in Italy, France, and California.

“Its an exciting time at the Wine School of Philadelphia,” says Mr. Wallace, “our students are taking positions throughout the wine industry. Our graduates include importers, distributors, sommeliers, shop owners, and winery owners. Now we can add winemaker to the list.”

The Wine School programs differ from other programs available. While most wine education is based on rote memorization, the Wine School uses dynamic teaching methods based on current research. “Our programs are immensely enjoyable and educational. We are also building the future of the wine industry, one student at a time.”

The Wine School will soon be announcing a partnership with a major university to offer a fully accredited diploma program for the wine professional. Currently, its flagship program, the Wine Foundation Program, is open for registration for the spring semester. Information on programs are available at www.winedegree.com.
