There’s Something Missing from Michael’s Famous Cookie Dough:
Trans Fat

SAN DIEGO — Starting on Nov. 1, there will be something missing from Michael’s Cookies famous Cookie Dough, but it won’t be either the flavor or the quality of these award-winning
delectables. Michael’s Cookies announced that its entire line of cookie dough, distributed nationally to some of the hospitality industry’s most recognized names, will be zero grams trans-fats. This step makes Michael’s one of the first domestic cookie dough manufacturers to offer a full line of zero grams trans-fat products, including their baked, traditional, and sugar-free cookies.

“Michael’s Cookies is excited to be one of the very first manufacturers of gourmet cookie dough to offer our customers a zero grams trans-fat product line that sacrifices none of the flavor or quality of the original,” said Michaels’ Cookies Founder, Michael Radeczki. “With our products distributed by so
many leading hotels and other outlets, we have a responsibility to offer a range of products so our customers have more healthy choices. This product line is the result of a long development process to create a healthier cookie dough that is indistinguishable from the original.”

Trans-fats are created when hydrogen is added to liquid oil (a process called hydrogenation), creating a solid fat, like shortening. The Federal Food and Drug Administration says, "trans-fat raises low-density lipoprotein or 'bad'
cholesterol, levels, which increases risk of coronary heart disease." In its new dough formulation, Michael’s Cookies utilizes non-hydrogenated shortening with zero grams trans-fat.
