Charlotte, NC – Cosmos Café is proud to present in conjunction with Charlotte Shout.
Charlotte’s Second Annual Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner themed Carolina Harvest Monday September 19, 2005 at 6pm. This event will kick off the week of Culinary Events and Demonstrations for Charlotte Shout. The gala will bring together twelve of the city’s premiere chefs for a spectacular culinary event. All proceeds benefit The James Beard Foundation.
Guests will enjoy an ten-course dinner. Host chef Mark Hibbs of Cosmos Café will be joined by James Alexander (Zebra Restaurant & Wine Bar), Gene Briggs (Blue Restaurant & Bar), Tom Condron (Upstream/Mimosa Grill/Arpa/Zink), Tim Groody (Sonoma Modern/town/ Sonoma Kitchen), Bruce Moffett (Barrington’s Restaurant), Chris Ivens- Brown (Compass Group), Blake Hartwick (Bonterra /Radcliff on the Green), Geoff Blount (Sugar Buzz Pastry Shop), Martin Heller (LaVecchia’s Seafood Grille) will prepare the dinner and Mickael Blais (Caffe Siena), will prepare hors d'oeuvres at a pre-dinner reception. Peter Reinhart of Johnson & Wales University will bake all breads for the event. The Chefs will be utilizing ingredients highlighting both North & South Carolina. Wine pairings will be from North Carolinas budding Wineries. Guests will also enjoy a silent auction of fine wines and works by local artists.
“We are pleased to bring together such an array of talented chefs for Charlotte’s Second Friends of James Beard Dinner,” said Hibbs. “What makes it even more gratifying is that the proceeds will benefit emerging culinary talent.”
The James Beard Foundation is a non-profit institute that fosters the appreciation of fine dining and recognizes excellence in the culinary arts. Founder James Beard is known as the father of American gastronomy. Today the foundation provides scholarships and educational opportunities and serves as a resource for the industry. All funds raised at the Charlotte event will benefit the James Beard Foundation, with a portion of the proceeds earmarked to provide scholarship funds for local culinary students.
