HELP FOUND ONLINE FOR “FIT AND FAST” FAMILY DINNERS
Internet Service Brings Families Back to the Kitchen
San Antonio, TX – You know the feeling. It’s the end of a long day. You’re staring into the refrigerator wondering, “What’s for dinner tonight?”
Carol Loyless of Georgetown doesn’t wonder anymore. Each week she goes to the Fizzy Meals website and picks up menus, recipes, shopping list, and a kitchen game plan. According to Loyless, “I tell everyone about this. It has simplified my life, and we are eating healthier than we ever have.”
Fizzy Meals publisher, Susan Hammond, lost 70 pounds four years ago, but she wanted a permanent lifestyle change, not a short-term diet.
The most challenging part? “Changing the way I cook,” she says. “I love to cook and thought I was doing a pretty good job of healthy cooking. But I realized that I had a lot to learn.”
Hammond began experimenting with favorite recipes and, in her words, “squeezing out some of the calories.” Several small improvements added up to big improvements. “It’s not so much leaving out, as it is moderating and trying new cooking techniques.”
After re-learning how to cook for her family, she began helping others reach their weight goals. Noticing how many people give up on cooking at home from lack of experience or confidence or time, a year ago she launched Fizzy Meals.
The weekly newsletter provides subscribers with four “fit, fast, family-friendly” menus that can be sized for two, four or six. Taking less than 30 minutes to prepare, dinner is on the table in under an hour.
Instead of being one more chore at the end of a busy day, preparing dinner is now quality time for magazine editor Cynthia Massey of Helotes. “My daughter is learning to cook by making the side dishes, and we’re all enjoying our evenings together. It’s a great family experience.”
While nutritional information is included, Hammond emphasizes that this isn’t “diet” food. “It’s about healthy, good-tasting meals for the whole family, about balance and variety. We put just as much emphasis on the vegetables and grains as we do on the entrees.”
Hammond gets high praise from subscribers for the menu game plans. The step-by-step guides give them more confidence in the kitchen. But she also hears thanks for those vegetables. Melissa Arndt, a Seattle subscriber, agrees. “Fizzy Meals has really changed our perspective on veggies. I’m using such a variety of herbs and spices, and the side dishes are delicious.”
The free Winter Sample—including chicken enchiladas, meatloaf, crispy zucchini sticks, buttered baby carrots, and chocolate cake—is available at www.fizzymeals.com. Annual subscriptions are $29.
