Washington State Potato Foundation to Honor 50 Years of Leadership
Over 225 Agricultural Professionals to Attend Recognition Banquet at the 2006 Potato Conference
MOSES LAKE, WA - The Washington State Potato Foundation has named the 1956 Washington State Potato Commission as the winner of the 2006 Industry Leadership Award. Accepting these honors are their behalf are the two surviving members of the WSPC—Ed McKay (Othello) and Walt LePage(Pasco). These men will receive these honors during the second annual Washington State Potato Foundation Industry Leadership Banquet on Wednesday, February 8, beginning 6:30pm at Big Bend Community College-ATEC Center, 7611 Bolling Street, Moses Lake. The Foundation chose to honor the founding WPSC board of 1956 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the WA Potato Commission.
With this honor, a scholarship will also be dedicated in the name of the Washington Potato Commission. This WSPC Leadership Award will be awarded to a college bound youth during the 2006-2007 school year. “We commend the 1956 Commission for their hard work and vision—they truly have set the pace for the potato industry and our efforts today,” says Dale Lathim, WSPF Board Chairman.
Connell Oil will support the WSPF Industry Banquet by sponsoring a raffle for a year’s supply of fuel, with all proceeds to underwrite grower education and additional scholarships for college bound youth aspiring to agricultural careers.
The Washington State Potato Foundation was established in 2000 and supports educational opportunities, philanthropic giving, research and training in Washington’s potato industry. The WSPF funds student scholarships and supports educational workshops that enhance Washington State’s agricultural industry.
