Rice to the Rescue 2005 Recipe Contest

by USA Rice Federation

If you have a great tasting, creative and easy-to-prepare recipe that features American-grown rice, you could win a $5,000 cash prize and a set of All-CladŽ stainless cookware in the USA Rice Federation's 7th Annual "Rice to the Rescue!" recipe contest!

So put on your apron, turn on your creativity and submit a favorite rice recipe for anything from a comfort casserole, sensational salad, savory side, and enticing ethnic dish to a luscious dessert from your own kitchen! Let the natural goodness and delicious taste of rice be your inspiration. Cooking with rice opens up a world of great ideas!

A $5,000 cash Grand Prize and a 9-piece set of All-CladŽ stainless cookware (retail value $540) will be awarded to one amateur cook for the winning recipe. In addition, five finalists will each receive a $1,000 cash prize along with an All-CladŽ stainless 2-quart rice pot (retail value $100) and 14-inch stir fry (retail value $150). Again this year, there will be a $1,000 cash prize plus cookware awarded for the "Best Whole Grain Rice Recipe".

Only original and unpublished rice recipes (including appetizers, soups, salads, side dishes, main dishes or desserts) are eligible. A panel of culinary professionals will judge semifinalists based on taste, appearance, ease of preparation and creativity. Recipes must be prepared in 30 minutes or less with no more than six ingredients (excluding butter, margarine, oil, water, salt and ground black pepper), and must use at least 1 cup of uncooked (or 3 cups cooked) American-grown rice.

The contest is open to adults 18 years and older who are residents of the United States. Food professionals (including chefs, food writers, home economists, dietitians and food educators) as well as employees/members of the rice industry or USA Rice Federation are not eligible to compete.
