Macrina Receives 2005 Chef Professionalism Award
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., August 1, 2005—Thomas Macrina, CEC, AAC, received the American Culinary Federation’s (ACF) Chef Professionalism Award for 2005 at the ACF National Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Sponsored by Minor’s, a division of Nestlé Foodservices, the national Chef Professionalism Award is presented annually to the culinarian who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism through certification, continuing education and training, culinary competitions and community involvement.
Macrina, a certified executive chef (CEC) of the Desmond Great Valley Hotel and Conference Center in Malvern, Penn., and vice-chair of the American Academy of Chefs (AAC), is president of the ACF Philadelphia Chapter. He has been an ACF member since 1976 and an AAC Fellow since 1987. He was the coach of the 2004 ACF Culinary Youth Team and has received Presidential Medallions in 1996, 2000 and 2002.
The award was designed to commemorate the efforts of Dr. Lewis J. Minor, AAC, Louis Szathmary, AAC, and Lt. Gen. John D. McLaughlin, AAC. The combined efforts of these three individuals helped achieve a long-sought goal for American Chefs: official recognition as professionals by the U.S. Department of Labor, reflected in its Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
The American Culinary Federation, Inc. (ACF), established in 1929, is the premier professional organization for culinarians in America. With nearly 20,000 members and 240 chapters nationwide, ACF offers educational resources, training, professional certification, apprenticeship and accreditation programs. In addition, the ACF is the presidium for the World Association of Cooks Societies (WACS), the international network of chefs associations, with more than eight million members globally.
