Aoyama Named 2005 Pastry Chef of the Year
ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA., August 1, 2005-- Darrin Aoyama, executive pastry chef of the River Oaks Country Club in Houston, received the title of 2005 Pastry Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation Inc. (ACF) at the ACF National Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
The ACF Pastry Chef of the Year Award recognizes a pastry chef who has displayed a passion for the craft, has an accomplished reputation in the pastry field and has given back through the education of others by sharing skills and knowledge. Ayoama was one of four regional finalists who participated in a cook-off.
Aoyama, an ACF certified executive pastry chef, has won more than 40 awards in culinary and pastry competitions. He was the national pastry chef on the 2000 ACF Culinary Team USA and a pastry chef on the 2004 ACF National Pastry Team. In addition to his earning his certification as an executive pastry chef, Aoyama obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern California in 1990. Since 2000, Darrin Aoyama has been the executive pastry chef at the River Oaks Country Club in Texas.
