Just over two and a half years ago, FHCS Director Aron Malcolm, began the tedious process of writing a new Food Safety training and management guide based on standards and guidelines that define Food Safety responsibilities for all food industry sectors. Having been involved in varying sectors of food industries both within Australia and Internationally during the previous decade, Aron found that there was a genuine requirement for everyone involved with food industries to have access to a Food Safety resource that would provide high-calibre information parallel to legislative standards. Through his Food Safety consultancy, FHCS, Aron discovered that owners, managers, supervisors and other staff of food businesses were desperate for Food Safety information that would address the often grey area between the requirements of Local Food Legislation, National Food Safety Standards and International Guidelines such as HACCP.

It is a terrible shame that the “She’ll be right mate” food safety mentality still runs rife throughout food industry sectors in around the world. As prices often dictate the supply and production of foodstuffs to and from food businesses, Food Safety is quite often overlooked in the struggle to meet budgets. There is no longer a sanctuary for such mentalities as the long arm of the law continues to impose its grasp upon international food industries. With the continual review of existing legislation and guidelines, it important for the proprietors of all food businesses to ensure their Food Safety skills and knowledge are maintained commensurate with the scope of their business activities and market share.

Millions of people become ill each year from consuming foods that have not been produced and served according to known safe food practices.
