Rathbun Fires up the Stove with another first…
His own Restaurant…..Rathbun’s

ATLANTA, GA., May 26, 2004: Chef Kevin Rathbun has opened his own signature restaurant, Rathbun’s. Located in the Inman Park area of Atlanta, Rathbun’s will be open for dinner six nights a week.

Featuring his new “Modern American” menu that includes Small Plates, Raw Plates, Big Plates and his fun ‘Second Mortgage” section, Rathbun has created a menu for the city to love. Small Plates include Sambal Tossed Calamari, Yaya’s Eggplant Steak Fries, Lamb Scaloppini & Thai Rare Beef. “Raw Plates” consist of Chef Kevin’s “Crudos” of Hamachi & Ahi and his newly created “Krog Street” Mozzarella” that is made at the restaurant. Chef Kevin is also introducing his “Mock Turtle” Soup and his Soup 1-1-1. Big Plates are Braised Brisket in Smoked Tomato, Sea Scallops Benedict on Country Ham Grits, Niman Ranch Pork Tenderloin with white cabbage carbonara, and Broiled Salmon Trout with Artichokes & Spring Onions. His “Second Mortgage” section includes prime steaks and premium seafood. Pastry Chef, Kirk Parks has also created a first for Atlanta dining with his “small dessert plates.”

The wine list offers a tiered list of worldwide wines along with eighteen glasses of wine by the glass.

Kevin’s management team consists of Pastry Chef/Partner, Kirk Parks, and General Manager/Partner, Cliff Bramble and his wife Melissa Rathbun.

Design wise, The Johnson Studio highlighted the space with dark wood and kept some of the exposed brick walls. They reinvigorated the look with a new open kitchen, dramatic tones of gray, and a description of industrial meets modern. They kept the mix of the worn out flooring and added the suspended stovepipe pendants that radiate a fuchsia tone. The dining room is accented by the soft open illuminated kitchen. The new bar includes four large dark columns and a bleached white cherry-wood bar top. And the light projecting from behind the banquettes focus on the monochromatic boxes and results in a grand piece of vased artwork. The long, draped, knotted sheers gives the space the warm feeling of a just-built 100 year-old building.

Pops of vibrant color make up the room and the sound incorporates a jazzy, urban tone that gets one excited the moment they walk through the fuchsia colored door. The banquettes, and large roomy booths incorporate colors of dark cherry wood and striking color schemes that exude comfort and welcome.

For the outside patio, The Johnson Studio decided on logoed peak-a-boo fabric panels and large umbrellas that allow the intimacy of private patio dining and the feeling that one is in a hidden gem of a restaurant.

The restaurant is located in a turn of the century industrial metal works building called The Stove Works. It is surrounded by small in town neighborhoods like Grant Park, Virginia Highland, Cabbagetown, Candler Park, Morningside, Emory, Druid Hills, Midtown, and Little Five Points and is only two miles from the downtown hotel and convention trade. Rathbun’s phone number is 404.524.8280.
