(Washington, DC) April 7, 2006—(Washington, DC) Four top DC chefs will compete on May 15, 2006 to create the best crab cake at the first “I Love Crab Cakes” competition, co-sponsored by The AIWF and Phillips Seafood.
All proceeds will benefit the National Capital Area Chapter of The AIWF. Individual members of the chapter are also invited to compete in a special non-professional category. Event information, rules and non-professional entry forms are downloadable at www.aiwf.org/dc/.
The chefs chosen to compete are some of the mid-Atlantic’s top toques, including: Greggory Hill, of David Greggory; Jamie Leeds, of Hank’s Oyster Bar; Jim Swenson, of the Fifth Estate at the National Press Club; and Geoff Tracy of Chef Geoff’s. Ris Lacoste, most recently of 1789 Restaurant, will serve as mistress of ceremonies. These chefs are ardent supporters of food and wine education and longtime members of The AIWF.
Winners in the non-professional category will win gift certificates from the competing chefs and cookware from Calphalon.
Renowned Seattle chef, restaurateur, and author Tom Douglas is on board to serve as a celebrity judge and sign his new book, I Love Crab Cakes (William Morrow, $19.95). Bob Madigan (“Man about Town”) from WTOP radio; Tom Head, executive food and wine writer; Nycci Nellis, publisher of The List; Marc Silverstein from the Food Network and contributing editor of DC Style magazine; Phyllis Richman, former food critic for The Washington Post; Ann Cashion, chef/owner of Cashion’s Eat Place and Johnny’s Half Shell; and Dennis Gavagan, Corporate Executive Chef, Phillips Seafood complete the distinguished judges panel.
The event will be held on May 15, 2006 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Phillips Flagship restaurant, 900 Water Street, SW, Washington, DC.
