Special Tribute Event to Julia Child with Keynote Speaker Jacques Pépin
On Sunday, October 24, from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm Jacques Pépin, chef, author, tv personality, long-time friend of Julia Child will join hundreds of members and distinguished guests of the American Institute of Wine & Food to celebrate the life and legacy of Julia.
Julia Child and Robert Mondavi founded the Institute 24 years ago to promote education about food and wine.
Jacques will be joined by several other of Julia's long-time friends including Anne Willan, cookbook author and founder of the renowned La Varenne cooking school in Burgundy, France;
Dorie Greenspan, food writer and author of Baking with Julia, the bestselling companion volume to Julia Child's PBS television series; Jim Dodge, pastry chef, author and former general manager of food service of Getty Museum and Boston Museum of Fine Arts; Ris Lacoste, chef of 1789 Restaurant in Washington, DC, star of “Cooking for Julia” a new 30-minute PBS documentary tribute to Julia Child, highlighting the thrills and spills of hosting a dinner for Julia on her 90th birthday; and Stephanie Hersh, Julia Child’s longtime personal assistant, as Master of Ceremonies.
Over a dozen of DC’s top chefs will prepare dishes for a reception to honor Julia Child and some of her dearest friends and colleagues will share special memories of their friend. Chefs include: Geoffrey Tracy, Chef Geoff’s; Greggory Hill, David Greggory; Jamie Leeds, 15 Ria; Roberto Donna, Galileo; Francois Dionot, L’Academie de Cuisine; Eric Ziebold, CityZen; Jamie Stachowski, Restaurant Kolumbia; Ris Lacoste, 1789; Leon Baker, Signatures; Cesare Lanfranconi, Tosca; Luciano D’Avanzo, Tuscana West.
