     becomes Premier of Italy

1952 The first atomic bomb was
     detonated on the Marshall
     Islands

1970 Mamas and Papas singer
     Michelle Phillips marries
     actor Dennis Hopper. They
     divorced 8 days later.

1998 I bought my current house!

Shrunken Apple Heads!

What you'll need!

Apples
Large sewing needle
Fishing line
1 cup of lemon juice
2 tbsp. salt

How to do it!

Peel and core the apples. Using the needle, run the fishing line up through the apples and tie off at the bottom. Carve different facial features into each apple with a paring knife and soak in the lemon juice and salt for one minute. Hang the apple to dry for about three days until they look like the real thing.

Spicy Nuts

For a less spicy version, cut the amounts of curry powder, cumin and cayenne in half.

1 1/2 cups whole almonds
1 cup pecan halves
1 cup walnut halves
2 tablespoons walnut oil
2 teaspoons curry powder
2 teaspoons cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
salt, to taste

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl combine the nuts and oil to coat evenly. Combine the spices and toss to distribute evenly. Spread the nuts on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

Salt to your taste.

Pumpkin Pie

Ingredients:

1 can (12 oz.) evaporated skim milk
2 eggs
1 can (1 lb.) pumpkin
3/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 9 inch prepared pie shell

Procedure:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

Blend all ingredients well in a large bowl. Pour into the pie shell. Bake for about 1 hour. Pie is done when knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

NOTE: For a custard, omit the pie crust and bake in 8 individual custard dishes for 40 minutes at 375 degrees.

Pumpkin Jell-O

Ingredients:

3 oz. pkg. lemon Jell-O
1 cup hot water
2 Tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1 cup canned pumpkin (not pie mix)
1 sm. Cool Whip
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Procedure:

Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water, add sugar and spice. Add pumpkin, mixing well. Chill until slightly thickened. Fold in Cool Whip and nuts. Pour into mold or clean bowl and refrigerate until firm.
