The winery sits atop Ilahee Hill just south of Salem, Oregon. The surrounding 50 acre estate vineyards are planted to select clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The red hillside soils yield intensely flavored grapes. In addition to the estate vineyards Willamette Valley Vineyards purchases fruit from many additional sites throughout Oregon. Every vineyard lot is held separate through fermentation and cellaring. Ultimately most of the wines are blended to achieve the creates synergy, yet in some vintages, the finest individual vineyards lots are bottled under the OVB label. OVB stands for "Our Very Best." Winemaking is both art and science. At Willamette Valley Vineyards art and science are woven together to produce the finest wines possible from state-of-the-art equipment matched with age-old European methods. Our intent is to create premium wines, and a few great ones, that are true to their origins and keen of aroma and flavor. We take pride in wines that are intensely fruited, redolent of the varietals from which they are made, and worthy companions to fine food and convivial company. Pinot Noir: Pinot Noir rules the Pinot family of grapes. It creates the renowned red wines of France's Burgundy region. Over the past few decades, Oregon has risen to international Pinot prominence. In Oregon's Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir allures and entertains us with beguiling and complex wines. These wines possess great food affinity. You can enjoy them with a tantalizing variety of foods: from salmon to fruits and cheeses or red meats, game, fungi, casseroles, and even chocolate. Experience the sensual pleasures of our Pinotscape. Chardonnay: Chardonnay creates a very diverse array of wine styles: from the rich, unctuous Australian styles to the racy, piercing wines of France's Chablis district. Oregon's Willamette Valley produces wines that balance these two extremes. Here it is warm enough to capture the tropical fruit and spice characters familiar in California Chardonnay, yet cool enough to retain the natural grape acidity to keep the wines zesty and appetizing. Enjoy our unique Chardonnay with fish, shellfish, poultry and creamy casseroles. Pinot Gris: A close sister of Pinot Noir, with a unique, copper gray skin that often yields a white wine with a hint of color. Italians call it Pinot Grigio. Alsacians refer to it as Tokay d'Alsace, and Germans label it Rulander or Grauer Burgunder. Most American plantings are in Oregon's Willamette Valley, where it makes a wine of substantial body and richness with a transcendent fruit quality reminiscent of fresh melons ripe figs and winesap apples. It pairs well with many foods; with salmon it is sublime. |
