August 01, 2000 91 points1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch A grand chardonnay from the '98 vintage, Merryvale's second release from Dutton Ranch is both weighty with fruit and refreshing as a sea breeze. Steve Test, who took charge at Merryvale with the '98 vintage, has crafted a big-boned wine... enjoy it with a meaty fish like grouper in a wild mushroom sauce. |
July 05, 2000 "Wine of the Week" 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch "Everything you could want in a chardonnay and more. This is gorgeous wine... Medium-bodied, exceptionally complex, dry, balanced acidity, integrated oak... Aromas include allspice, apple, lime, pear and white pepper with flavors of apple, honey, lime, pear and toast." - Doug Frost, MS, MW |

June 01, 2000 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch This very solid, keenly focused wine presents good varietal fruit teamed up with a balance measure of lightly toasty oak in a compact, medium-deep package. It is slightly supple in feel and finished with a proper bit of
crisping acidity, and it should find a comfortable place at the table with any number of not-too-spicy chicken dishes. - Charles Olken and Earl Singer |
June 01, 2000 "Star Listings" 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch An excellent Chardonnay, in a full, complex, yet elegant style. Crisp and intense in its flavors of apple, peach, citrus fruit, butterscotch, and toasted oak. |

April 26, 2000 "Perfection!" ...one of those miracles of nuance and purity that make you glad the state of California exists. This scrumptious chardonnay exudes the essence of abundant lemon-lime-drenched limestone and honeysuckle; its deft balance and deceptive spareness, its sleekly and subtly buttery and toasty oak and its creamy, substantial finish add up to perfection. - Fredric Koeppel |
March 24, 2000 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch I was blown away by the 1998 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay -- a tremendously complex and lingering wine that possesses that extra dimension of terroir in addition to pure California fruit driven character. - Bob Cranston |
